Your Role:

As Assistant Superintendent, you will:

● Lead and manage: Prepare and manage weekly schedules for our dedicated maintenance crew.

● Maintain and monitor: Oversee equipment use, care, cleaning, preventative maintenance, and safety training.

● Collaborate and strategize: Work closely with the Superintendent on budget management, recordkeeping, and developing short- and long-term agronomic strategies.

● Ensure precision: Calibrate and operate sprayers with accuracy and safety.

● Communicate effectively: Assist the Superintendent in informing the organization and guests about maintenance activities.

● Be flexible: Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor or manager.

What You Bring:

● 1-3 years of turfgrass management experience (required).

● Supervisory experience (required).

● A four-year college degree (preferred but not required).

● GCSAA Membership or apprenticeship (preferred but not required).

● Knowledge of budgeting and expense management.

● A strong passion for the golf business.

● Exceptional organization and attention to detail.

● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions:

● Enjoy physical activity: Expect to engage in typical golf course maintenance activities for extended periods (6-8 hours).

● Physical demands: Regularly reach with arms and hands; occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.

● Environmental exposure: Be prepared for moderate exposure to noise, extreme cold, heat, working outdoors, chemicals, pesticides, gasoline, vibration, pollen, dust, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards.

Storm King Golf Club: Precision Turf Management Specialist

Job Description: 

The Precision Turf Management Specialist will lead our efforts to optimize golf course maintenance through the strategic implementation and management of advanced technologies. This role is centered around precision turf management and continuous innovation to enhance the beauty and playability of our course. This includes leveraging autonomous and robotic mowers, sophisticated smart irrigation systems, and drones for data collection, analysis, and application. This position requires a proactive individual who is passionate about technology and its potential to transform golf course management.

Addressing the challenges inherent in traditional golf course maintenance requires an innovative approach that maximizes efficiency while minimizing costs. This role is key to implementing that innovative approach.

 

Key Responsibilities:

      Autonomous Mower Management: Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of autonomous mowing equipment, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency. This includes scheduling, troubleshooting, and optimizing mowing patterns.

      Drone Technology Integration: Utilize drone technology to capture aerial imagery, analyze turf health, assess course conditions, identify areas needing attention, and generate data-driven insights for informed decision-making. This will also include applications for spraying, seeding and fertilizing.

      Smart Irrigation Systems: Manage and program advanced irrigation systems, monitor water usage, analyze weather data, and optimize irrigation schedules to promote healthy turf while conserving resources. This includes using data to optimize maintenance strategies, and improve turf conditions.

      Technology Evaluation and Implementation: Research and evaluate emerging technologies related to turf management. Lead the implementation of promising technologies, conduct pilot programs, and ensure seamless integration into existing operations.

      System Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Perform preventative maintenance on all technology systems, troubleshoot technical issues, diagnose problems remotely when possible, and coordinate repairs as needed. Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities.

      Staff Training and Collaboration: Train golf course maintenance staff on the use of new technologies, data interpretation, and best practices for precision turf management. Collaborate closely with the groundskeeping team to ensure effective integration of technology into daily operations and workflows.

      Sustainability Focus: Implement practices that promote environmental sustainability, such as efficient water usage, reduced chemical applications (through precise application), and minimizing equipment emissions, through the use of technology.

Qualifications:

      Strong understanding of turfgrass management principles and best practices.

      Demonstrated experience with autonomous mowing equipment, drone operation (Part 107 certification preferred), and smart irrigation systems.

      Proficiency in data analysis, interpretation, and reporting. Experience with GIS software is a plus.

      Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills related to technical systems.

      Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and work collaboratively with others.

      Passion for exploring and implementing new technologies to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

      Commitment to sustainability, environmental stewardship, and resource conservation.

      Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

      Valid driver's license.

Bonus Points:

      Experience with specific turf management software or hardware.

      Knowledge of golf course operations and maintenance practices.

      Experience with sensor technology (soil moisture, weather stations, etc.).

Physical Requirements:

Warwick Valley CC: Golf Course Superintendent


 

The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operations of Warwick Valley Country Club (“WVCC”). They manage maintenance workers, ensuring that the grounds are in excellent condition for golfers. They also work closely with Club management to develop and implement policies and procedures that improve the golf course’s and Tennis Court’s playability and revenue.  WVCC is a long-established club in Village of Warwick NY.  The golf course is a 9-hole course with multiple tees and was originally laid out in 1900 and the club was established in 1958.  We are seeking a candidate with long-term aspirations to contribute to our family-oriented club for many years to come.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

·       Works with the Club General Manager, the Club President (who could change every two years) and the Greens Committee on direction.

·       Turfgrass Management: Golf course superintendents are responsible for overseeing all aspects of turfgrass care, including mowing, fertilization, aeration, and weed control. They develop comprehensive turf management programs to maintain optimal playing conditions and ensure the health and vitality of the turf.

·       Irrigation System Management: Superintendents monitor and maintain the irrigation system, ensuring that the course receives adequate water for healthy turf growth. They schedule irrigation cycles, adjust sprinkler heads, and address any system malfunctions or inefficiencies to ensure optimal water distribution and conservation.

·       Pest and Disease Control: Superintendents implement integrated pest management (IPM) strategies to monitor and control pests, insects, and diseases that may affect the turf and vegetation. They conduct regular inspections, apply appropriate treatments, and keep detailed records to prevent and manage any potential outbreaks effectively.

·       Landscape Maintenance: Superintendents oversee the overall landscape maintenance of the golf course, including the care and maintenance of trees, shrubs, and flower beds. They ensure proper pruning, planting, and overall landscape design to enhance the aesthetics and visual appeal of the course.

·       Equipment and Budget Management: Superintendents are responsible for managing the equipment and machinery used in course maintenance. This includes ensuring proper maintenance and repair of equipment, as well as managing the budget for equipment purchases and maintenance.

·       Environmental Stewardship: Superintendents play a crucial role in promoting environmental stewardship practices on the course. They implement sustainable practices such as water conservation, responsible chemical use, and habitat preservation to minimize the environmental impact of golf course operations.

·       Staff Management and Training: Superintendents lead and manage a team of 2 maintenance staff. They provide guidance, training, and supervision to ensure that all tasks are performed efficiently and to the highest standards.

·       Course Improvement and Renovation: Superintendents participate in long-term planning for course improvement and renovation projects. They assess the condition of the course, identify areas that need enhancement, and collaborate with golf course architects and consultants to implement design changes or renovations.

·       Regulatory Compliance: Superintendents ensure compliance with environmental regulations, safety standards, and golf industry guidelines. They stay updated on relevant laws and regulations and make necessary adjustments to course management practices to ensure adherence.

·       Communication and Stakeholder Relations: maintain effective communication with golfers, club management, and other stakeholders. They address any concerns or feedback, provide updates on course conditions, and collaborate with stakeholders to meet their expectations and enhance the overall golfing experience.

·       Provide at least a monthly status of the activity of the staff regarding the golf course.

·       May be asked to implement projects from time to time as approved by the board.

·       Responsible for the opening and closing of the tennis courts and may need to adjust the water flow for the Har-Tru courts from time to time.

·       Maintenance responsibilities include snow removal in the winter as needed.

·       Course Improvement and Renovation: Superintendents participate in long-term planning for course improvement and renovation projects. They assess the condition of the course, identify areas that need enhancement, and collaborate with golf course architects and consultants to implement design changes or renovations.

·       Regulatory Compliance: Superintendents ensure compliance with environmental regulations, safety standards, and golf industry guidelines. They stay updated on relevant laws and regulations and make necessary adjustments to course management practices to ensure adherence.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience and Certifications)

·       3-5 Years experience as an Assistant Superintendent or experience as a Superintendent

·       Has all certifications required to order and apply chemicals and fertilizer.

·       Strong knowledge of golf course maintenance practices, equipment, and techniques

·       Strong mechanical skills required to keep equipment running in peak condition.

·       College degree preferred.

·       Country Club experience a plus

 

KNOWLEDGE, Skills And Abilities

·       Basic proficiency in Microsoft tools to document activity as needed.

·       Strong interpersonal skills; comfort dealing with vendors, members and other employees (team player)

·       Ability to work independently and willingness to ask for assistance when needed.

·       Salary range is $85,000 to $105,000.

·       Includes vacation and sick time.

·       Does not include benefits.
